Almost everyone's first attempt at AI at work goes the same way. You type something vague, get something vague back, decide it is overhated or overhyped, and go back to doing the task by hand.

The gap is rarely the tool. It is that nobody showed you what a prompt is supposed to contain, or which of your tasks is worth pointing it at first — and the advice online is either a listicle of forty apps or a course that assumes you already use it daily.

Level 1 is the half hour that fixes that, on one task you actually repeat.

After Level 1 you can

Write a prompt that says who the answer is for, what the constraints are and what shape it should come back in
Ask a tool what it assumed — the single habit that catches most of what it invents
Tell a classification, a learner path, a level and a pathway apart, and know which of them can move you forward
Say which AI tool you are permitted to use at work, on which plan, and where its limits are documented
Point to one task in your own week that AI genuinely helped with, and one thing it got wrong

The vocabulary, once, properly

Four things in this curriculum sound like "how advanced you are" and mean completely different things. Ten minutes here saves you being confused by the other fourteen tracks.

Questions before you start

I have genuinely never used AI. Is this too advanced?

No — this is the level written for exactly that. It assumes no account, no prior attempt and no vocabulary. The first step is describing your job in your own words, and the last is one prompt about a task you already do.

Which AI tool do I need?

One that you are actually allowed to use at work. Any general assistant works — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Microsoft 365 Copilot. If your employer has an approved list, that list wins over anything we suggest, and the level walks you through checking your plan and your permissions before you start.

How long does it really take?

About thirty minutes across four steps, and you can stop between any of them — your progress is saved. The longest single step is ten minutes.

Do I have to do the levels before the pathways?

No. The twelve pathways are open to anyone in any order. If you already use an AI tool most weeks, go straight to the pathway that matches what you want to get better at. Level 1 is for building the habit from scratch.

Is my work reviewed by a coach?

No — nothing here waits on anybody. Every step counts the moment you finish it, and the step itself spells out what a good answer contains, so you are checking your work against stated criteria rather than sitting in a queue.
